As a norm mail takes 2 days to get to the border. As a precautionary measure mail a few more days in advace. 5 days earlier. Delivery times are subject to Mexican road contidions no guarantee please ask the desk clerk for faster service with very important time sensitive mail.
The new year started off with high energy and lots of enthusiam only to bring the same old boring problems and nastyness that we continue to experience with the package service from Laredo, Texas to San Miguel de Allende.
Please understand that the package service is a system and a system that works equally for everyone. You do your part and we do our part.
This is an example: A client who smiles and winks at me, a very gallant man, ordered a mink coat. I suppose he got it off of e-bay, he claims the coat cost $50 USD. The coat arrived at 220 N. Zapata Hwy. #11 with an official appraisal enclosed in the box (part of the required documentation), the appraisal was dated 1982, it said, that the appraised value of the coat was $300 USD. We charges him based on the $300 valuation.
In our daily movement across the border, we are subject to revision from the officials at the border. If they ask to see any of the items being processed, we use the invoices you provide to back up our valuation of the merchandise. We just hand them our copy, (of what?), in this case the appraisal, no problem. My dear client friend now hates me, he closed his box and did not receive his package. He said, " That I was so difficult to deal with!" I am at a loss to try to figure out how not to be difficult. This was one of 88 packages processed that same day and it was not handled any better or any worse than any other package sent to SMA.
This is another example: A client who stayed with me at the B&B over 10 years ago, who I haven't seen or been involved with for over 8 years, called my staff in Laredo and asked a personal favor, of course, he offers to give them a little money under-the-table (this is corruption) for the favor. I arrive at the office located in the Plaza Real del Conde, to a very angry client complaining to me that he asked a personal favor of the staff in Laredo and they just don't perform, he was so mad.
The Laredo office is a mail/package receiving and processing center. The La Conexion desk clerk at the location in SMA where you pay for services is your connection to La Conexion. Let us deal with our staff in Laredo. La Conexion does not offer a personal shopping service and asks that you don't offer to pay our staff an under-the-table fee for anything (this is corruption).
One more example: A 10-year former client of Border Crossing contacts one of my employees and asks if she could have her meds sent to La Conexion. My employee answered, of course, just send it to our address. She sends it to Aldama #3, it gets stuck in customs, she calls livid, hateful and full contempt for La Conexion, because this never happened with Border Crossing. My employee did neglect to say "our address in Laredo, Texas". Did she ever in the 10-years ship directly to Border Crossing in SMA? No!
Please understand that Susan Sargeant, your friend, does not review every single package that passes through the La Conexion business system, nor does she want to, that is why the business has a system. If the fees are miscalculated please let us know, otherwise, pickup your package, pay your fee and go on your way.
Over the years I have developed a business (a separate inity) with a friendly kind personality, that tries to help anyone in anyway it can. I train the staff to be polite and helpful to all people trying to live and become established in a foreign country. These acts of kindness seem to gave the general public the feeling that they have right to vent on the staff at the drop of a hat, swear at them and call them and the company names. They feel that the staff is capable of making personal judgements on who's stuff is coming across border and who is getting charged and who doesn't. We don't, and on purpose, not even my personal friends receive "free" service and they understand.
This is incredible, I would think that when you are good and kind, good and kind would be returned.
In developing an unbiased system I have attached three simple rules that apply to ANY client with a mailbox at La Conexion who is using the package service, the rules to this unbiased system are as follows:
The charge for this service is (S&H) $1.00 per pound shipping (volume measurement does apply) plus 17% of the value of the merchandise-handling. These fees are based on the weight and value (not what you pay, insurance, discounts, etc) of the merchandise that you are sending from Laredo, Texas to San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato. Your package must arrive in it's original packing (don't open your vitamins and put them in a zip-lock bag) with an invoice showing the value of the merchandise. We ask for 10 days after the package arrives in Laredo, Texas to process the merchandise and deliver it to you in San Miguel de Allende. This gives us time for mechanical break-downs or other unseen problems, It usually takes 4-6 day. Thats it, very simple.
Thank you,
La Conexion
